Fraser- Peacefully, surrounded by his loving family at Bluewater Health Palliative Care, John Luke Fraser passed away on February 20, 2025 at the age of 84.John lived a simple and beautiful life and is survived by relatives throughout Canada and the United States. Most especially, John was the beloved and treasured husband of Gloria for 61 years. John was an incredible and steadfast father to Sandra Fraser and Kyle ( Sophie ) Fraser. John’s most heartfelt calling was being the outstanding grandfather and best friend to Simon Doan, and the most special Pop to Wesley Fraser and Hugo Fraser. John was born to humble beginnings, as one of twelve children of Odile and William Fraser. Their life began in Quebec and the family eventually settled in Southwestern Ontario. John was a long-time resident of Lambton County, spending most of his life in St. Clair Township, along the river that he loved. Whether it was to watch the boats, rake the beach or do some water skiing, being across the road from his home at the river is usually where you could find John. John was a man of deep faith and religious beliefs. Throughout his life, he was devoted to the Catholic Church and was a pillar of his congregation. John was an active member of the Knights of Columbus, aspiring to the rank of 4th degree. As we watched him move through his final days, we believe that the peace that he was grounded in was because of a life-long spiritual practice that was very personal to John. John had a great love of music. He was self taught on many instruments, and could play the drums, banjo, fiddle and ukulele. In his retirement, he was part of many groups that filled their time “doing gigs” at local retirement homes and long-term care facilities. Playing music and seeing the smiles from the audience, and the camaraderie from his band mates, brought John joy for many years. John was an excellent electrician and proud member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 530. John valued his union association and was active in his local membership. While he worked most of his career in construction, he was always available to family and friends if they needed anything. John’s generous demeanour was well known by his acts of service throughout the community. John’s family would like to extend sincere gratitude to his medical team who helped him and his family throughout his cancer diagnosis. Dr. Kim, Home Instead, Bayshore and VON were integral members of Team John. Without you all, we could not have honoured John’s wishes to remain at home for the time that was able to. Once John’s care needs increased, he was able to receive the support that he needed from the Palliative Care team at Bluewater Health. The care and compassion that he received from the medical staff was filled with love and laughter. Special thanks to nurse McCauley who was his ice cream sundae fairy and always brought a smile to his face. The most honorable mention to nurse Cheryl who provided care to John in his final days and support to our family that was above and beyond. Friends will be received at the Knight Funeral Home, 588 St. Clair Parkway, Corunna on Thursday February 27, 2025 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. where prayers will be offered at 6:00 p.m. with words of remembrance will being shared at 6:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Joseph’s Church in Corunna on Friday February 28, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. with Fr. Ray Lawhead celebrating. Interment will follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery. As a gesture of remembrance and celebration of John, you are encouraged to spend time in nature, make friends with a dog, learn to water ski or sing your favorite song. In lieu of flowers sympathy may be expressed through memorial donations in John’s honour to Bluewater Health Palliative Care. John and his beautiful wife Gloria, were two of the first people to welcome Keith and I to the Parish at St. Joseph’s. Our love for them was instant. Always a warm hug and friendly banter when we would meet at a mass. Their love for us was confirmed when John showed up at our home with a huge box of peanut butter cookies. A recipe I still cannot replicate. Their must have been a whole lot of love in them. You are and always will be in our thoughts and prayers. With heavy hearts we both send our deepest condolences to you Gloria and to your family. He will be missed.
Love always

We will always remember John as one of the kindest, fun-loving and gracious neighbors we have had the honor to know. For almost 30 years his smiling face and straw hat could be seen as he rode his John Deer tending to his and Gloria’s oasis. He had a love for people and always had time for a few words of wisdom – don’t worry Jim that job will be there tomorrow if you don’t finish it today! We will miss you, John, and are thankful for being our friend and neighbor. Gloria and family know we are there for you and in our prayers.

Dear Gloria, Sandra, Kyle and families: I so sorry to hear about John’s passing. I will always remember John for teaching me to waterski and giving me a lifelong love of the sport. After mastering two skis and then slalom skiing, John encouraged me to “try” the trick skis that he was so talented at. Although I never managed to ski backwards like John could, he taught me to drive his boat so that he could have a turn (usually starting upside down and backwards in the water!). John was a great neighbour to our family and he will be missed.

Although I didn’t know John personally, working alongside his daughter, Sandra, leaves no doubt at what a wonderful person he must have been.
Thinking of your family during this time, and wishing you all peace.

Our deepest sympathy in your loss of John. He was a super special man. Bill thought a lot of John . The July 4ths we spent courtesy of you and John will never be forgotten. The fireworks were great but the visits even better. Keep your memories close to your heart. Ruth and Bill Leeson.

Dear Fraser Family,
I am very saddened by the news of John’s passing. I will fondly remember our family trips down river to the Fraser’s riverfront home where we were always treated like family with a “my house is your house” welcome from the Frasers. John was a wonderful part of my childhood. He taught me how to waterski and I was truly amazed by his incredible skiing skills on the water. He very kindly let us spend endless hours in the water at his meticulously maintained beach on the St.Clair river, happy memories which I will always remember. Rest in Peace Mr. Fraser and thank you for all of your kindness toward our family and your local community.
Sandra and Simon, I’m thinking of you both and sending you love and strength in this time of grief ❤️❤️
