Peter Humble

Humble-Peacefully in the early hours of April 4, 2025, after a brief illness, our cherished and beloved husband, Dad and Poppa, Peter Melvin Humble passed at Bluewater Health in his 82 year. Best friend and husband to Bonnie, loving father of Beth (Wally) Luyke and Brad (Jacinda) Humble. Devoted Poppa to Brett (Jessica) Annett, Brooke (Kyle) Annett and Halie Humble. Over the moon great grandfather to the “wee one”, Khloe Adams. Beloved bonus Dad to Amanda Gaw, Marnie (Jack) Pretty and Marcy (Matt) Draker. Special bonus Poppa to Ethan (Mya) Crone, Hannah (Nick and Ellie) Crone, Lily (Tucker) Crone, Elijah, Wesley and Anna Draker and Shane, Sam and Emma Pretty. Much loved brother-in-law and shenanigan enthusiast of Janet Mathieson and family. Predeceased by his adored wife of 42 years, Mary Jane (2007); his parents, Melvin and Jean Humble and by his son-in-law Eric Crone (2011). Peter worked at Dow for many years and built close and enduring friendships with his fellow Millwrights and Tradesman. He couldn’t wait to get to the monthly breakfast he often organized with the Dow retirees at the Blue Willow in Sombra where he kibbitzed with Jackie and Crystal. Peter was a man of great faith and a true servant of his community. Elder of many, many years and Sunday School teacher at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church in Corunna. A lifelong hockey and baseball fan, Peter served as a Board Member of the Mooretown Flags (“GOOOOO MOOOOORETOOOWN”) and as well coached many Corunna kids including Brad and Beth for Corunna Minor Baseball. Peter served on the Corunna Fire Township for over 20 years as a Firefighter, Captain and Training Officer. Peter had a group of very special friends that he saw or spoke to weekly – usually daily – who held a dear and special place in his heart. You know who you are. If you had the privilege of meeting or knowing Peter you immediately had a friend for life. His broad smile, endless corny jokes (often focussed on flatulence) and love for Dow and Corunna hijinx warmed many, many hearts. A very, very heartfelt and special thank you to Dr. Alex Basden, Dr. Angelica Cornila, Dr. Robert Borek, Dr. Pandu Shetty, ER Dr. “Kashina” and nursing staff and the Telemetry floor Nurses and PSW Staff, Rachel, Delanie, John, Jason, Stacey, Kirsten and Nancy. You have no idea how much your kindness, professionalism and care for Peter impacted our family. Friends will be received at the Knight Funeral Home, 588 St. Clair Parkway, Corunna on Sunday April 6, 2025 from 1-4 p.m. A funeral service will be held at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church in Corunna on Monday April 7, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Katherine Hawley officiating. Interment will follow in Moore-Union Cemetery, Mooretown. A man who loved the company of cats and dogs, Peter’s beloved pets were all rescues and should you wish to make a donation in Peter’s memory, the Sarnia District Humane Society would be a beautiful way to express your sympathy. To honour Peter’s memory we simply ask that you smile at a stranger, let someone merge into your lane, tell a terrible Dad joke and cherish those you love daily because tomorrow is never promised. With tears in my eyes I read your obit Pete but laughed at the flatulence joke part. You were a well respected pillar of the community but also a jokester and big teddy bear. You had a way with the young and old, always laughing and encouraging. I am so glad to have gone for breakfast a few times with you and Bonnie and the girls recently. You are going to be missed by so many Pete. I bet you caused some havoc and laughter at the Pearly Gates. RIP Old friend.

Sending all our love to Bonnie, Beth, Brad and families. Pete held a special place with many years of wonderful family memories. Christmas Eves, garden party antics on the farm, family dances, Santa, coaching baseball and more. He was a very special friend to my dad. He never failed to put a smile on your face or see the best in everyone. Rest easy Pete.

    1. Helen, our family roots run deep. I cannot thank you enough for all the pictures and shared memories today. 💜

  13. Pete got stuck with me during a 5th shift interval at Dow. We were up on the roof of Styron’s rubber grind area when Pete realized he needed a type of wrench that he didn’t have with him. “Eddie go to my bench and bring me the ????wrench.” I did not have a clue what it looked like and I knew Pete’s bench would be in a state of organized chaos. All I could do was pick up a tool bag and fill it with every wrench I could find. This collection was a lot of weight to drag back up to the job. I got the bag across the roof and set it down in front of Pete……and stepped back. I wasn’t really sure what his reaction would be. He looked in the bag…..took out a wrench……and put it to work. Nothing was said about the bonus wrenches I returned with. At the end of the day Pete and I were on our way down to ground level. I was struggling with the weight of the wrench collection. He never turned to look my way but I never forgot what he said. “You can play on my team any day Eddie”. There are tears in my eyes as I write this…….Ed Williamson

  14. Peter will forever be in my heart as well as our family. From teasing my Dad at Dow, to playing Santa, and sharing his faith and jokes with us, he will be missed. Bonnie, Brad, Beth and family, you were blessed to have such a loving man in your life. Hugs to all Holly Foster and family

Peter was a wonderful man and like his name he was a humble servant to his Church and Community. I had the pleasure of being his Pastor for the last two years at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian and grew to respect and admire his faith and friendship. We should all take a page from Peter’s life and apply it to our own to be more giving, ready to serve others and to forgive as we have been forgiven. Rest in peace and enjoy your eternal home.
