Vansevenant- It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Mike Vansevenant, peacefully surrounded by his loving family at Bluewater Health on Thursday July 23, 2026 at the age of 69. Mike was a devoted husband and best friend to Elly Vansevenant for 48 years. A loving father to Jeff (Shelley) and Jordan (Cassie), and an adoring Papa to Ava (Seth), Olivia, Lukas, and Noah, who brought joy and pride to his life. Nothing made Mike happier than cheering on his grandchildren as they participated in gymnastics, cheer, hockey, and baseball. Mike was a beloved brother to Amy (Jerome) Dewulf and a proud uncle to Anissa (Matt). He will also be deeply missed by his in-laws Joe and Tonny, Pete and Reinelda, Marion and Rob, Jack and Thea, Neil, Ann Vanderloo, Ann Marie and Bill, as wellas his many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Mike was predeceased by; his loving parents, Joe and Mary Vansevenant; his brother Bobby and by his in-laws, Frank and Anna, Ron, Tony, Liz, and Frank Leyten. Mike valued all of the friendships he built from the many years he worked at the Shell Chemical Plant. He also spent many rewarding years coaching kids in the Mooretown Minor Hockey Association. Spending his time on the golf course with his golf buddies or on the dock and swimming in the river were some of his favorite things to do. In 2017 Mike became the grateful recipient of a heart transplant- a remarkable gift that blessed him with nine additional years with his grandchildren to watch them grow and celebrate life’s milestones. Family and friends are invited to celebrate Mike’s life at the Corunna Legion on Sunday August 9, 2026 from 1 p.m. to 4p.m., where stories, laughter and memories will shared in honour of a life well lived. In lieu of flowers sympathy may be expressed through memorial donations to the Sarnia Organ Donor Awareness Group (SODA) Arrangements entrusted to Knight Funeral Home, 588 St. Clair Parkway, Corunna. My most sincere condolences to you and your families. Mike was always great to see around the arena and was sure proud of his own son’s, his grandson’s and granddaughter! Between hockey, baseball and gymnastics, I’m pretty sure he wore that smile very proudly! …… and he himself was a great hockey coach as well!❤️
