Sharp-As I sit here writing my obituary, I am gobsmacked that in a little over 7 months of diagnosis of small cell lung cancer, pulmonary lung disease and Afib, that God knows I am better off in his hands. I will miss my love of my life, Patsy Armstrong O’Connor who has given me almost 40 years of love and devotion. She has been my saviour and best friend. I will also miss my loving stepson Patrick Armstrong, my adoring grandson Zac (Mackenzie), My loving brothers Ron (late Bonnie), Brad (Sue) and Stuart (Cindy) and all of their children and grandchildren and my parents who are predeceased, Ted and Joyce Sharp. My wife’s family I have also treasured, Joanne Byers (Late Neil), Steve Sanford (Late Karen), and Michael Hinman (Sherry) and all of their family. I will also miss my cherished extended family Ann and Drew Le Clair who added joy to our hearts. Dave and Pete (Donna) Stewart have been faithful loving friends as well. I thank my Fountain View and Florida family for being there in our retirement years. Walt and Ruthann, Char and Ed, Roz and Dave, Dave and Beth, Tom and Linda are just a few of these cherished friends. I will miss my Rummoli family, my Lambton College family, my cherished neighbours and all the wonderful students who always brought me joy. I want to thank all those Doctors and nurses at Bluewater Health with all they did to help me survive. The Oncology department was there for me from the start as well as my GP Dr. W. Southcott. To that end, I would be honoured to have memorial donations to the Oncology department for new patient chairs and for donations to be made to the Dave Mounsey Memorial Fund for donated funds to add life saving defibrillators across Canada. Again, thanks to you all who have left my heart filled with love and joy and always appreciated. Friends will be received at the St. Clair Parkway Golf Course, Mooretown on Friday October 3, 2025 from 4-8 p.m. with words of remembrance being offered at 5 p.m. with food and libations to follow. Jim was a beautiful, funny, and caring gentle man who, when he laughed, put his whole body into it. Just watching him laugh always cracked me up. Jim and Pat. Cherished friends and neighbours of my parents for so many years. Jim’s was always a friendly face on my visits home, a wave across the yard, a quick hello, showing my boys the pond, and so on. Our families shared a love of life on the river, and I have always enjoyed a visit with Jim & Pat at the dock, a boat ride, or whatever the case may have been as we crossed paths. Jim’s outpouring of kindness to our family in our own time of loss earlier this year, while he knew of his own challenges on the horizon, is but one example of his fine character, putting others before self. As everyone has said, our hearts are breaking. Although we only knew Jim a short time in Florida it wasn’t hard to see he was a fun-loving, compassionate, caring man! The quote famously penned by Maya Angelou is a personal favourite of mine when she wrote, “I have learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel”. It didn’t matter if I ran into Jim in the boardroom, the lunch room, the hallways at Lambton or later at our local Pharmacy or at one of the retiree lunches (Cosmos last fall), he always made you feel like he was genuinely happy to see you and that is a special gift indeed. Pat, I am so sorry to hear about Jim and send you my sincerest condolences. Whenever I asked him how you were doing too Pat, if I ran into him solo, his face lit up instantly and that feeling was certainly reaffirmed in terms of his ingenuity and love of life as he penned in his obituary. He will be missed.

We remember Jim as being very active at Fountain View. He enjoyed playing volleyball, bocce ball and shuffleboard. All of us also
enjoyed playing some of those sports. When Jim wasn’t playing sports he spent time helping his neighbors and improving his place
at Fountain View. In the evenings we would get together in smaller groups to play many different card and marble games. Jim always
made the games more fun and he had a great laugh. We won’t ever forget Jim, he certainly was a great friend to everybody. We were

My first teacher in Canada and as a scared 21 year old student/immigrant, he gave me the confidence and courage to achieve everything I want.
A supportive human being and an exceptional guru for me. His smile is something I’ll always cherish.
Nothing would make him more happy than seeing his students succeed. He was my first job reference and I owe him everything I have achieved personally and professionally.
There was no wrong answer in Jim’s class, he made everyone feel special, welcomed and included.

Mary Ann Gordon. I had the pleasure of knowing Jim while working at Lambton College. He was so well known and liked by everyone. That included staff, faculty, managers, cleaning and cafeteria staff. Sometimes he had my ECE students and they all liked him as well. The Coldplay song ” A Sky Full Of Stars” reminds me of him. Patsy, I am so sorry for the loss of your beloved husband, Jim. I met you both while visiting Tom and Linda in Florida and we shared many games of cards together, along with snacks and drinks on the patio. He was such a character and I know you will miss him terribly. Praying peace over you.
Jim was such a wonderful colleague at Lambton College. He had so much energy and enthusiasm and his deep love and gift for teaching was always evident to all his colleagues and students. In my time coordinating the pre programs, he made the highly useful suggestion to add a life skills course to the pre technology program that was extremely beneficial and well received by the students. That is just one example of many of Jim’s input that enriched the college and the student experience.
It saddened me greatly to hear of his illness. His great big smiles in the hallways will stay with me. May his memory continue to enrich the many lives he touched in his years with us. Our deepest condolences go out to Pat.

He always had a smile in his eyes, gave a chuckle and spoke his mind about topics that were discussed around the executive table and at general membership meetings. His wit and charm led us through tough decisions, fun social gatherings and the day-to-day operations of a varied group of both public and private sector unions working together for the betterment of our workplaces and our communities.
The SDLC valued Jim’s work and the amazing person he was.
