This community is mourning a loss of a great person in Sylvia Knight. She was always smiling and in such good spirits.
I remember one time I was in the credit union in Corunna and just finished at the teller and was going to leave and in walked Sylvia and upon seeing me (with a smile) very loudly says “Hey Zippy!! ….How many meat pies are you ordering this time? They’re ready!!” 4 or 5 customers plus the tellers all smiling! You will be missed by all Sylvia . RIP.
On behalf of St. Paul’s Petrolia we wish to extend our sincere sympathy on the passing of Sylvia. She was a lovely lady to know. She was instrumental when at St. Paul’s with fundraising, social committee events, bazaars and I’m sure many other things, and was one of the founding members of the UCW who made turkey pies, that were started to feed seniors at reasonable prices. All her friends here will miss her. We loved having her attend some events in the Church over the years. Our thoughts and prayers are with all her family and friends. Blessings – Marion Henderson on behalf of St. Paul’s U.C.

Sylvia was truly a force in this community. Her presence at the Funeral home when people looked for a familiar warm person to lean on will be missed
Corunna United will simply not be the same. Sylvia was the driving force in making a great team work for the entire community. So many dinners, lunches and baking; and meals for the food bank were prepared by the great volunteers under the leadership and energy of Sylvia.
I will miss our visits at lunch after church where denominations meet and share.
May she rest peacefully with the God she served well and may her family have peace in knowing she at rest.

Dear Kevin, Brenda and al those who loved Sylvia!
I’m saddened to hear this news. Sylvia has been such an encouraging presence throughout my ministry. It was always such a joy to run into her at the grocery store, at Knights or Corunna UC and have a little chat about life and church!

Dear Kevin, Lisa, Michele and family members, Alison and I extend our deepest sympathies to you and your families, following the loss of your dearly beloved mother, Sylvia. When we arrived in this community, thirteen years ago your mother, and Father, (Allan) took us under their wings. They were so very welcoming and gracious to us. They also became very good friends to us and certainly were a blessing and a help to me in my ministry at Corunna United Church. Sylvia was very gracious, generous with her time and resources and encouraging to us and to those whom we came to know through her. It was rare, perhaps never, that an event took place in Corunna or at Corunna United Church where, Sylvia didn’t play a prominent role, all without ever drawing attention to herself. We will dearly miss her but are confident we will see her again, in the sweet by and by. May your memories of this wonderful woman be of great comfort to you and your loved ones in the coming days, weeks, months and years. May God be with you now and in all the days to come.
Blessings to you and your loved ones. (Rev.) Blair Corcoran and Alison Corcoran.
Kevin, Brenda and family.

Dear Michele, Kevin, and Lisa,
The sadness we all feel over Ms. Sylvia’s passing is shared by so many, far beyond just family. It speaks to the kind of person she was and the deep impression she left on everyone fortunate enough to know her. Your parents touched countless lives through their kindness, generosity, and the quiet warmth they carried with them.
They were always so gracious to me, and I will never forget how lovingly they embraced their grandchildren. The cruise we shared in 2005 remains one of those rare, beautiful moments in life that stays with you forever. It is just one of many memories your parents created; moments filled with joy, love, and togetherness that will continue to live on in all of us.
To say that they will be missed hardly captures the depth of their impact. Their lives were a blessing to many, and their legacy is carried in the hearts of those who knew them.
I still find myself processing this loss and feeling a deep sense of sorrow. Please know that you and your family remain in my thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
With deepest sympathy and affection, Sheharyar
To the loved ones of Sylvia:
I met this wonderful person many years ago as a teen when I worked at the Corunna No Frills. A delightful soul, and I learned was a longtime friend of my family. I always looked forward to chatting with her all while I worked there, and she always made a point to come chat with me.
When my grandfather Don passed, she was very present and involved with his service at Knight funeral home. Sylvia, a natural, compassionate leader, was exactly what my family needed as we lost the patriarch of our family. A longtime friend of his, she brought us much comfort and even a little humour to that day.
I encountered Sylvia many times in my young adulthood after, and it would always light up my entire day. She really had that sunshine effect about her.
My deepest condolences for your loss, and please know my thoughts and heart are with you.
Kevin, Michele, Lisa & families
My Deepest Condolences go out to you all on the sudden loss of your beloved Mother. Unfortunately I never knew your Mother but Kevin when I lost my husband back on May 31 2024, you were there for me & my family. You showed us all the respect, kindness, & sympathy.
You were truly professional but sincere in the help in what needed to be done. So I know your mom raised you right. By reading the other condolences she was a beautiful woman inside and out. May she be at peace with her beloved husband. My thoughts & prayers are with you all at this very difficult time
Sylvia was a wonderful friend and neighbor and will be missed. Our deepest condolences.
I was so saddened to hear of Sylvia’s recent passing. Sylvia and Allan were such good friends to my Mom, Betty Maidment, when she lived at Thompson gardens prior to moving back west with us.
Sylvia had the heart of a servant and her smile was so sincere. She went out of her way in service to others and her personality lit up a room. Sylvia gave freely of her time to others and Mom always said she was such a great worker in the church and all enjoyed their special meals for Thompson Gardens residents.
My condolences to the family, Sylvia will be dearly missed.
Blessings, Lynne & Doug Thorson
