Henry “Harry” Rome

Rome-Sadly but peacefully surrounded by his loving family at Edgewater Senior Living in Georgetown on Monday January 12, 2026. Henry “Harry” John Rome, age 94 years formerly of Corunna. Beloved husband of the late Merilyn (2020). Much loved father of Lynn Gabovic and her husband Joseph of Brampton and the late Michael Rome (2022). Cherished grandfather of Nicole and her husband Trevor of Georgetown and great grandfather of Hudson and Beckham. He will be missed by his brother Phil (Liz), nephews and niece. Policing was his first passion and then business administration until he retired at 70. Harry was a true family man in every respect. He, Merilyn and family enjoyed many years creating memories at their “river home” in Port Lambton, but also developed an additional family on Nash Court in Corunna. He recently moved to a senior living residence in Georgetown to be closer to family, where he made an impact with staff and residents. Harry will be missed by many. In keeping with his wishes cremation has taken place and there will be a family gathering in the spring at which time Harry will be laid to rest with his beloved Merilyn and son Michael. In lieu of flowers sympathy may be expressed through memorial donations to Kidney Foundation of Canada or the Sarnia and District Humane Society.     With having the pleasure of working with Mike and he introducing us to his wonderful parents , then they becoming a neighbour, was such a surprise and pleasure ❤️
    Merilyn was such a sweetheart and when went over always had pictures of Beckham and Hudson to show me.
    Both caring people and we are glad they were part of our lives and met you Lynn and Joe. Lovely family.

    It was such sad news to learn of Harry’s passing, thanks for messaging me Lynn.
    I first met Harry when he hired me at TR in 1974 and we kept in touch regularly over the years. He was quite instrumental with the development and advancement of my career over the years.
    I enjoyed stopping by and getting together with your Mom & Dad at their beautiful river home in Port Lambton a few years ago while driving from Toronto to Chicago. We went out for dinner at one their favorite local spots and it was so enjoyable catching up and reminiscing.
    What a great loss, but you and your family can rest assured he was a fine & decent man.

  7. So sorry to hear of Harry’s passing. He was a wonderful neighbour and friend for so many years. We always enjoyed our telephone chats and visits that we had with both Harry and Merilyn. He will now be with his beloved Merilyn and son Michael. Rest in peace.
