Verwey – Peacefully surrounded by his loving family at Bluewater Health, Sarnia on Sunday February 11, 2018. Arie Verwey, age 80 yrs of Corunna. Beloved husband of 42 years to Julie Verwey. Much loved father of Jennifer Verwey of Corunna and Wendy Swales of Red Deer, AB. Treasured grandfather of Owen and Tate Swales. Arie is also survived by his sister, Willy Grunte and her husband Peter of Corunna and numerous other family members in Canada and Holland. He will be fondly remembered by the gang at Corunna Hardware. He was predeceased by his sister, Margaret Soepboer and by his brother-in-law, Mac Soepboer. Arie emigrated to Canada with his family in 1953 and spent 19 years working on the ships in the Great Lakes. He then spent 18 years working at Petrosar/Nova before venturing out on his own as a sign maker having worked right thru his retirement. In keeping with Arie’s wishes cremation has taken place. Family and friends are invited to join at the Royal Canadian Legion (Note Venue Change) in Corunna on Thursday February 15, 2018 from 2-5 p.m. with words of remembrance commencing at 3:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers sympathy may be expressed through memorial donations to St. Joseph’s Hospice, Sarnia or to the Sarnia and District Humane Society. It is with sadness I read about Aire’s passing in the Sarnia paper tonight. Aire and I met at Petrosar in the early days.
We kept in contact through his sign business. He was always my “go to guy” when I needs signs or tags made. He was always joy to work with.
He will be missed.
