THOMPSON, Bernadette Marie – It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that after a long and courageous fight with Scleroderma, and with her family by her side, we announce the passing of Bernadette Marie Thompson (nee Savage) on Sunday August 2, 2015 at St. Joseph’s Hospice. She has found peace and is now with her father Al and “Bestie” Colleen. Bernadette will be dearly missed by her best friend and Husband Lonnie, sons Daniel (Cassie) and Michael (Justine). Very special Nana to Taylor, Gabrielle, Declan, Norah, Jack, and a sixth grandchild on the way. Predecesed by her Father Alan Savage. Survived by Mother Bernadette Savage, sisters Christine Atkinson (Brad) and Anne-Marie Savage, brothers Paul Savage (Carolyn) and Pete Savage (Maggie). Sister-in Law to Dave Thompson, Joe Lavers (late Colleen), Richard Sim (Maureen), Mary Beth Billick (John) and Rob Thompson (Mitch). Beloved Aunt to Chris, Kate, Jon, Katie, Meryn, Emmy, Glynis, Natalie, John, Sarah, Emma, Chris, Nick, Ryan, Adam, Amanda, Claire, Jonathon, Kaitlyn, Callum, Liv, and Eva. Bernadette worked for the St. Clair Catholic District School Board as a Secretary for several years where she developed many fantastic relationships with staff, parents and students. She will be missed and remembered by lots. She was an inspiration to many people, and is loved and adored by all of her family and friends. Bernadette loved to travel, shop, and enjoy life on the St. Clair River, but especially spend time with her sons and their families. She was “the best Nana ever”. Friends will be received at the Knight Funeral Home, 588 St. Clair Parkway, Corunna on Wednesday August 5, 2015 from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. where a Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday at 10:30 a.m. with Allan McKeown officiating. Cremation has already taken place. In lieu of flowers sympathy may be expressed through memorial donations to St. Joseph’s Hospice, Sarnia or to the charity of one’s choice. I am so very sorry for your loss. There are no words that could possibly be said at this time. What I do want to say is how much I cared about and enjoyed your mother, wife, nanna. I had the great fortune to work with Bernadette as her principal while at Sacred Heart School. She was the best secretary I ever had. Smart, efficient, witty and simply an amazing woman! I loved and cherished our time together. She made me look good every day! We had lots of fun!
I know how much Bernadette loved her family – especially her husband Lonnie. She talked about you Lonnie all of the time with complete love. We loved to talk about our family and we laughed out loud when sharing stories about our sons. She adored her boys! I know this is an enormous void for you all but I also know that this beautiful loving woman would want you to continue to live life with joy and feeling her love always and to continue to be there loving her grandchildren for her. They are all so beautiful. I met a few but she loved her grandkids including her little one on the way. It might take some time but that’s what I think she would want for you. I see Bernadette in her dad’s arms now and at peace. I will be thinking of all of you every day hoping you are a little bit better. I will never forget your wife, mother, or nanna! She was very special lady – one in a million! XO

From meeting in park with our young sons to seeing at arena for hockey games, Bernadette always had a beautiful smile and a kind word. Although away from Corunna for a long time, my thoughts are now with your family. My mother also suffered with Scleraderma so I well know the battles of this condition. Cherish your memories, her spirit lives on in your hearts.
Sending deepest sympathy to you and your family

So sorry for your loss! Losing a sibling is that much more difficult to understand. But strength to accept the pain comes from within and is tempered with good memories.

Lonnie and boys,
We are very sorry for your loss. We received word while in Montreal and could not make it home. The fact is that there are not any finer people on the planet than the Thompson family and we know that Bernadette is now in a better place. Please try and find comfort knowing that. The courageous battle and never ending positive support that you have provided has been an inspiration to everyone that knows you. You have profoundly touched the lives of everyone in your circle of family and friends.
Bernadette will be forever missed, but will never be forgotten.
