  30. Sending condolences from New Hampshire, over 30 years have passed since I saw Bernie, so in reading this news of his passing, I was deeply saddened for my friends Lori and Peggy and their families. My immediate thought was to listen to Billy Joel’s “Only the Good Die Young” to salute and honor my memories of Bernie! Yes back then, we simply called them ‘parties with Bernie’ where we listened to loud music, enjoyed the hockey games, or splashed around poolside. Today, reading all the wonderful notes of sympathy, it was clear to me Bernie stayed true to himself throughout his life’s journey – love for being with people he cared about while doing the things he loved : family, friends, hockey, social gatherings – anything to be with the people crossing his path, while not even being aware of the simple things he did or said that would have a positive impact on their daily lives. To Bernie, I salute you for your life’s journey and your impact. To my dear friends, Lori & Peggy, I am deeply sorry for your loss and grateful you have each other to guide each other and your families with honoring Bernie during this difficult time and over the days and weeks ahead. Love from NH, Brenda

  31. Brad and Kathy Knight

  34. Brad & Julie Boyd

Our sincere condolences Peggy, Ericka, Joanne, Lori and Angela. Bernie was a wonderful, one of a kind guy and a great friend dating way back to our public school days. There are so many great memories of Bernie and in all of them, he was positive and he was happy. (Except for those few times when his fuse went short playing hockey 🙂 Bernie had a heart of gold and that incredible, infectious laugh. Although we didn’t see him too often over the past several years, each time we did, he was still the same ole Bern. He was never without smile and always made others around him happier. We will cherish our memories of a great friend and he surely will be missed.

  35. Sending condolences and big big hugs to you all. Bernie was always a great friend to dad, from kindergarten to 60 they shared so many laughs and and growing up I would hear many stories about the “good ol days”. He will certainly be missed.

  59. Having Bernie and Peg in my family’s life has only made it better. Real people you can relax with, enjoy their company, happy to spend the time. As perfect a couple as could be. Bernie took me as a friend on day one at Foodland. He dispensed wisdom, jokes and ‘cranky old man’ observations without reservation. I enjoyed every minute. He’s a man I admire. He enjoyed the pleasures of life as he found them. Rest easy big guy.

  60. Errol White & family

We are deeply saddened by the loss of Bernie. He was a great man, coach and friend. I have so many fond memories of Bernie, from all the road trips for our own hockey team as well as going to see the Detroit Ambassadors or London Knights (before the Sting were around). One night Bernie and I were heading to a Knights game and Bernies car was in trouble. We decided to stop a local bar in Strathroy that he enjoyed, well I think we closed it and had to find a ride home.

So many stories buddy that I will always remember. You are going to be missed and I am sorry we lost touch the last bunch of years. Rest in peace buddy.

    Sincerely,
    Errol

So sorry to hear of Bernie’s passing. We got to know him when he coached our son Adam in juvenile hockey in 1991-92. They didn’t win a lot but it was a fun, growing year for both the players and their parents. Later we often found Bernie working at the grocery store and he and Jack would talk about their Montreal Canadiens. We’ll never forget him.
