Bettee Dawson

Dawson– It is with great sadness our family announces the passing of Bettee Dawson. Bettee passed away peacefully at Lambton Meadowview Villa in Petrolia on Saturday June 4, 2022. Bettee resided in Corunna and is survived by her loving husband Claire Dawson. Bettee and Claire enjoyed 67 years of joyful marriage due to the fact that she held the only copy of the marriage certificate and was thus able to relay all the fine print details to Claire. Mother of three children, Sher Dawson, Alison (Dawson) Hayes and Kevin Dawson. These three children crashed through their teens like a bull in a china shop. She met this challenge with an unwavering love which resulted in turning them into fairly responsible adults. Beloved grandmother of James (Christine) Hayes and great-grandmother to Sommer, Harmony and Ella Hayes. As per “grandma rules” each of them is perfect in every way and can do no wrong. Bettee loved the warmth and laughter of family gatherings and was often the last to leave as she visited with family and friends. She is survived by, her brothers, David (Joy) Ogg, Robert (Heather) Ogg and by her sister, Cindy (the late Wayne) Crow. She was a loving sister-in-law to Joyce (the late Bill) Hatt, Marilyn (the late George) Baker and Gary (the late Sharon) Dawson who all welcomed her to the family when she married Claire with love and perhaps a cream puff incident. She was predeceased by; her mother, Margaret Ogg (2021); her father, Leslie Ogg (1999); mother-in-law, Iva Dawson (2003) and father-in-law, Glenn Dawson (1996). Bettee was a member of Courtright United Church Choir and was an active member with the Courtright UCW. She enjoyed doing crafts and her memory will remain with us through the gifts made with her loving hands. In her later years she loved nothing more than spending time with her grandchild and great-grandchildren. Known as GG by her great-grandchildren, she worked to fulfill her duty to spoil them with great gusto. Bettee will be missed here on earth but she will be met by family who are waiting with open loving arms (and possibly a glass of wine) to welcome and guide her in this new phase of her journey. A special thanks is extended to the staff on the second floor south at Lambton Meadowview Villa for the care and compassion shown to Bettee during her stay there. Friends will be received at the Knight Funeral Home, 588 St. Clair Parkway Corunna on Wednesday June 8, 2022. From 5-7 p.m. where a funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday with Rev. Jill Rogers officiating. Cremation has taken place and a private family committal will be held at a later date.  In lieu of flowers sympathy may be expressed through memorial donations to the Courtright United Church General Fund. The obituary was written by our second daughter Alison. We have had a lot of comments on it. It captured her mother’s life very well.
Note; The “Boot Scootin Boogie was played as we left the funeral home. She liked to Line Dance and we sent her on her way with laughs hand hugs!

So very sorry for the loss of your beautiful Wife and Mother. Bettee was so lucky to have such a loving husband as well as her two daughters that came daily to be with her when she entered LMV. Your love for her was inevitable and I will miss seeing your smiling, friendly faces every day.

Sending you love and sympathy in this sad time.

    1. Thank you Laurel. Your kindness each time you welcomed us into Meadowview meant very much to both Sher and I. That is one of the things that we will miss in not going to the home.
It was one of the hi-lites of our day as we worked through Bettee’s struggle with her illness.

We can always remember the good times. As I said to many people “She was usually the last to leave a family gathering and a party.”
She fought hard to the end.
