Bob Shain

Shain- It is with great sadness that the family of Robert “Bob” Shain of Petrolia announces his passing on Thursday, May 25th, 2023 in his 79th year, at the St. Joseph’s Hospice in Sarnia after a strong fought battle with cancer.

Beloved husband of Christine (nee Pratt) and father of Jamie (Missy) Shain, Todd Lucas, and son-in-law Kim Core. Bob will be greatly missed by his grandchildren Karli (Caulin), Karisa, Andrew, Jetley, Konor, Kyle, Shayla, Alyssa, Nash, Nyah, Kaylie, and great granddaughter, Scottie. He will also be missed by his special friend Kyle Ogden and his furr child Poppy. Also survived by his brother-in-law and friend, Bob (Joan) Pratt, Marilyn (Steve) Vokes, and his many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his loving parents Edna and Ray Shain, in laws Jim and Simone Pratt, daughter Kelly Core, brother-in-law Jim Duffy, and his furr companion of 19 years, Chase.

Bob or Trapper as he was also known, had a love of hunting, trapping, fishing, and flying. He operated a pheasant shooting preserve where people came from all over to hunt and have Bob train their dogs, including Baseball Hall of Famer, Ferguson Jenkins. Bob was a lifelong dedicated member of the Island View Hunt Club for 60 years. His presence and dedicated involvement at camp functions will be missed – along with his roll call for early breakfast and dishes.

Bob was always a perfectionist, demanding the best, but he never asked for anything that he wouldn’t do himself. Bob had a career in the Carpenters Union Local 1256 where he worked for over 30 years. He was a hard worker and always gave one hundred percent in anything he did. This was shown throughout his battle with cancer. He was a fighter until the very end!

Very special thank you to the Hospice staff for their excellent care and kindness shown to both Bob and our family. In Lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Joseph’s Hospice, The Diabetes Foundation, LCDS, or The Cancer Society. Cremation has taken place and a private ceremony will be held for the immediate family at a later date. Arrangements entrusted to the Knight Funeral Home, 588 St. Clair Parkway, Corunna.
