Carolus “Carl” Modderman

Modderman- After a lovely evening with family, Carolus “Carl” Modderman, age 84 yrs of Courtright, passed suddenly on Saturday June 24, 2023.  Beloved husband of 58 years to Yolanda.  Much loved father of Marinka Molson (Shane) of Courtright, Nanette (Chad) of Saugeen Shores, and Sacha Moore (Jamie) of Cumberland, BC.  Treasured grandfather of Emma, Lucie, Jedd, Jordan, Laurel, Zak, Mackenzie, Ben, Megan, Owen, Oban and Alex, and great-grandfather of four beautiful children.  Carl is also survived by his brother, Leo Modderman (Theresa) of Ottawa.  He was predeceased by his sister, Magda van Zijl (Wim). Shortly after marrying Yolanda, they emigrated from Holland in 1965, first settling in Woodstock, then on to Brantford before coming to the Sarnia area and finally settling in Courtright in 1986.  Carl was a happy-go-lucky, positive guy who enjoyed interacting with people through his many jobs and businesses, including selling real estate, owning and operating The Awning House and the Frog Point Motel to name a few.  He enjoyed playing cards at the Courtright Friendship Club and always looked forward to his Saturday morning breakfasts with his buddies.  In keeping with his wishes, cremation has taken place and a public celebration of his life will be held for family & friends at a later date.  In lieu of flowers, sympathy may be expressed through memorial donations to the Alzheimer Society, or to the charity of one’s choice. Arrangements entrusted to Knight Funeral Home, 588 St. Clair Parkway, Corunna. Messages and condolences may be left online at www.knightfuneralhome.ca Knight 519-862-2845.

Bob and I will miss playing cards with Carl every week at courtright friendship club. He was always trying to pay me for something at the club. His special saying was…does the first ace or second ace take the trick. Dam, I will miss his smiling face and little chuckle.

So suprised to be reading this Yolanda. Jack and I have had many chats with you and Carl as we go about our daily lives in the neighbourhood. We used to tease him about wearing down the sidewalk as he was always doing something back and forth between the houses. We had no idea of his passing, but I saw you taking out the garbage last night and thought that was strange as Carl was the one we usually saw.
We will miss seeing and chatting with him.
Please accept our condolences to you and all your extended family.

    1. Thank you Laurie and Jack, still a shock for me so suddenly, will miss him for sure but not only to take the garbage out, I mostly did that anyway! 😍🙏

    Yolanda, Nanette, Marinka and Sasha,

My condolences to you and your families. I’m very sorry to learn of Carl’s passing. He was truly a great guy. Ingenuity, creativity, patience and generosity; these are the words that come to my mind when I remember him.
I also really respect any dad that can braid hair AND he did a good job of it too – I just can’t remember if he did the tight braids or the looser ones. 😌
