Colleen Lavers

Lavers- It is with great sadness and broken hearts that after an extremely brief illness and with her family at her side that we announce the passing of Colleen Ann Lavers (nee Thompson) on Monday October 6, 2014 at Bluewater Health Palliative Care Unit. Colleen is survived by her husband Joe of 37 years. Much loved mother of son Jonathan and his wife Diana and daughter and best friend of Kathleen (Katie) and her husband John Churchill. Special adopted mother to Nicola McNally. She will be sorely missed by her grandchildren Elisha and Ryan Lavers. Dear sister and sister-in-law to David Thompson (Washington D.C.), Lonnie and Bernadette Thompson (Mooretown), Richard Sim (Salmon Arm B.C.) Mary Beth and John (JB) Billick (London), Rob and Micheline Thompson (Corunna) and Carolyn Lavers (Grand Bend). She was the “favourite” Aunt to Christopher and Katherine Thompson, Daniel (Cassie) Thompson, Michael (Justine) Thompson, Meryn, Emmy and Glynis Sim, Natalie and John Billick, Sara and Emma Thompson and Cheryl Hardy. Colleen was the much adored Great Aunt of Taylor, Declan, Jack, Gabby, Nora, Carter and Myla. She was predeceased by her parents Lonnie (1993) and Madelyn (2007), sister Maureen (2005),brother John (1955), mother-in-law Jean (1983) and father-in-law Joe (2008). After the passing of her mother, Colleen quickly became the Matriarch of the Thompson family. She was the “go to” person to coordinate every single family function from holiday events to the famous Thompson Family Reunion. She will be missed by all her cousins especially Carol, Trish, Liz and Mel. Colleen worked for Nova Chemicals for 20 years before venturing out in 1998 as a SAP/Management Consultant. She worked extensively in the USA and abroad for Deloitte/ ICS Consulting and the Consumers Energy where she met and made many new and dear friends. She will be missed by Judy, Mia, and Christina. Colleen retired in 2012 and when Katie became engaged that same year Colleen quickly became the Wedding Planner Extraordinaire. She worked tirelessly planning the “wedding of the century” for her daughter right down to the smallest detail. She thoroughly enjoyed and looked forward to the Spring Break vacations travelling south to many different destinations with her best friends Gloria and Gord. She loved spending time at the “Hottage” in Port Franks with her family and taking Elisha and Ryan to the beach or the playground. She was very selfless individual who was constantly doing and helping others no matter who or what it was. She will be dearly missed by her “Bestie” Bernadette. Friends will be received at the Knight Funeral Home, 588 St. Clair Parkway, Corunna on Thursday October 9, 2014 from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. where a celebration of life service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday with Allan McKeown officiating. Cremation has taken place and a private family interment will be held in Moore-Union Cemetery, Mooretown. In lieu of flowers sympathy may be expressed through memorial donations to St. Joseph’s Hospice , Sarnia or to the charity of one’s choice.
