It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Daniel “Tex” Harvey Austin, who passed away peacefully on November 3rd, 2025, at Bluewater Health in Sarnia, Ontario, at the age of 62. Daniel had many passions in life – Running, fishing, travelling, an appreciation for fine timepieces and a lifelong love of all thing’s cars. Ultimately, it was the memories Daniel created when sharing his passions with family and friends that brought him so much joy. These were the stories of every race, the Thursday cruises, the mornings spent on the St. Clair River, afternoons at the ballpark, or nights around the campfire. Daniel will be forever loved and remembered by his devoted wife of 40 years, Susan Austin (Japp) and his children, Crystal (Jared) Wilson and CJ Austin. He was a proud and caring Grumpy to his grandchildren, Autumn and Elliot Wilson. He will be dearly missed by his mother, Sherrill Dustan (John Townsend); his siblings, Diana Austin (Patti), Steven Austin, April Austin, Adam Townsend (Liz), and Rachel Feron (Brian). His father-in-law, Bryce Japp; and his brothers in law Michael, Brian, and Kevin (Timi) Japp. He was predeceased by his brother Douglas Austin, mother-in-law Elaine Japp, sister-in-law Lori Japp and his father Harvey Austin (Carolyn). He will always be remembered by his special friends Ralph Vye and Rick Martens, The Retro Car Events and by his Masonic brothers of Moore Lodge # 294, where he shared in fellowship and service over 32 years. The family extends heartfelt thanks to the doctors and nurses at Bluewater Health, for their exceptional care and compassion. The earliest memory I have of Uncle Danny is him “bopping” my ears- I was fortunate enough to get him back for that and make him smile a couple of weeks ago. He told me not to cry and that it was all going to be okay.
I’ll always remember him and his soft-spoken ways at family gatherings. More recently I’ll remember him taking a liking to my husband Sumeet, one of the family “outlaws”, as the Austins would say.
Sumeet and I were lucky enough to meet up with Uncle Danny and Ralph in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, one of his happy places. I could feel his pride in me and his love for me as his nephew during that visit.
I’ll always admire Uncle Danny for his intelligence, and will be forever thankful to him for giving me Crystal and CJ to grow up with.
Losing your grandpa and then your Uncle in such a short time frame is hard- our family appreciates everyone’s love and support during this difficult time.
Crystal, CJ, Aunt Sue, I love you more than words can say. Sumeet and I wish you moments of peace and serenity as you grieve the loss of an exceptional man.
RIP Uncle Danny xoxo
So sorry for your loss. ❤️
RIP 🙏 Dan
Rest easy brother l love you oxoxo pain free . Till we meet again love you oxoxo
I met you in the Canadian Tire fishing supply dept in the spring of 2024. You taught me how to tie many fishing knots, clean fish, and helped me try to master the art of “catching” fishing. You were always checking on my progress as you launched or pulled your boat out of the river. You even took my dad out on the river with you to share in your love of fishing. I missed you this summer, and hoped I may soon see you fishing once again. Although I don’t know your family or friends, I did meet your wife Susan, to whom I give my deepest condolences. I will miss him and all his knowledge of fishing, however, heaven has another angel.
sorry to hear this ! so many GOOD MEMORIES god speed and prayers!
Dan has been a great friend for many years. My deepest sympathy to all his family.

Susan and family: we send our sincere sympathies at this difficult time.
I had the privilege of meeting “Tex” several years ago at Canatara through my brother in law Kevin. Tex helped me figure out a problem I had with my Grand Prix. It was a pleasure knowing you. Condolences to the family. Thinking of you at this difficult time. RIP

Sue, Crystal & CJ. Danny had such a huge heart and I always enjoyed the time we got to spend together. I cannot walk by a package of marshmellows without remembering him starting the marshmellow fiasco in mom’s kitchen.
I am so thankful for the chats we had over the past few months.
Joe and I had the honor of meeting Danny through Ralph a couple Winters ago. Immediately friendship Blossom for we all had such a compassion for what we calledour Puerto Vallarta familia. Not just as neighbors and Friends but compassion for the Mexican people their cultures and the way they live their lives. Truly once you open your eyes it teaches us to be grateful and humble.
Danny had such a way about him. The man that could walk a mile in a minute. Along the way kind caring and giving. A meal or leftovers, from some change in his pocket. To Ralph and Danny looking and thrifting for second-hand dresses and asking me about blue eyeshadows and red lipsticks.
Someone once ask Danny why?? That he didn’t have to. And my friend Danny’s reply was why not I am blessed and because I can.
I am blessed , Joe was blessed we are all been blessed to have shared a part of Danny’s Journey. In his honor I will pack a dress that blue eyeshadow and a tube of red lipstick. I hope he knows how much he is teached love and kindness.
Our deepest condolences, sending our love, strength and prayers cross the miles.

Susan and family,
We offer our very deepest sympathies. It has been a long surreal fight and you were all incredibly brave. You have been great neighbours and we spent so many days together – in the yard, fishing or helping other neighbours. You will greatly be missed. Not a day has passed since you got back from Mexico that we haven’t thought of you. Susan, you are so strong and brave. We are here for whatever you might need. Sincerely ,Gerry and Lori

Sending heartfelt condolences to Susan and the family at this difficult time. I had the privilege of working with Dan in the Crude and Aromatics department at Petrosar/Nova for over 30 years, and we shared many laughs and stories throughout our careers. Another one of the good ones gone way too soon. Rest in Peace, Dan.
