Gary MacKenzie

MacKenzie-Peacefully at Bluewater Health with his family by his side, Gary Dane MacKenzie passed away on March 4, 2016 at the age of 64. He leaves behind the love of his life and best friend Maureen and his beautiful girls Carrie (Scott Henderson), Dawn (Tony O’Hara), Sarah (Andrew Gauvin), and Krista (Dale Prout). Gary was so proud of his grandchildren Tyler, Tori, Carson, Connor, Jaden, Miranda, Katerina, Taylor, Teagan, Kaedyn, and Gracyn. He was gifted with a beautiful great-grandson Mason whom he adored. He will be missed deeply by his companion Molly. He was the loving son of Sarah MacKenzie and brother to Don (Diane), Judy (Derek), and Terry. Brother in Law to Barb Surman, Brenda Goddyn (Mark), John Cranmer (Trish), Steve Cranmer (Suzie), and Deby Clark (Don). Gary was also a loving uncle to many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his father Herbert MacKenzie and in laws Don and Doreen Cranmer. Gary worked for Dow Chemical for 34 years and was known by coworkers as Big Mac. They had great admiration for his unselfish and compassionate nature. He was a volunteer firefighter in Courtright for many years. Those who knew him saw that his glass was always half full. He was so optimistic and never once would complain, even through this last year of illness. Special thank you to Dr. B. O’Mahony, Dr. Dostaler, and the Nurses who took such great care of him over the past year. A heartfelt thank you to our special family friend Joanne, who was by Gary and Maureen’s side through his battle with cancer. Gary enjoyed life and loved to travel, especially to his birthplace of Shigawake, Quebec. He enjoyed the simple pleasures in life and was happiest when he was spending time with his family and friends. Friends will be received at Knight Funeral Home, 588 St. Clair Parkway, Corunna on Tuesday March 8, 2016 from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. where the funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday with Rev. Jill Rogers officiating. Cremation will follow. As expressions of sympathy friends who was may send memorial donations to St. Joseph’s Hospice, Sarnia.     Thinking of you at this time. We didn’t know Gary well but his beautiful daughter, Dawn, has been a blessing in our lives and we know how much her dad influenced her ways and loving nature. Will keep you in our prayers.
