Stakaruk- Gary “Stackie” Don Stakaruk age 76 yrs of Courtright. An amazing and loving husband and father died on the bright and sunny morning of March 11, 2015. He passed away peacefully at St. Joseph’s Hospice, Sarnia with his loving wife, Marsha and daughter, Sharon by his side. He held a special place in his heart for “Momsie”; his mother-in-law, Peggy Petley and is also survived by Marie Stakurak, the mother of his daughter and he will be missed by his furry friend Max. His excitement of life and spirit of fun will truly be missed by everyone that Gary has touched in his life. His family best remembers him for his smile, exaggeration of stories in a fun and quirky manner and his excitement of life. Gary was a courageous and valiant fighter against prostate cancer for many years-through a prostatectomy, radiation therapy, chemotherapy, chemo/hormone treatments and experimental treatments until the cancer finally spread throughout his body. Gary fought cancer “his way”. Cancer truly met its match as he raised the bar in the fight against it! Gary was born on January 8, 1939 in Edmonton, Alberta. He accomplished and contributed much throughout his life. He was an outstanding baseball player, an avid curler and golfer and an exceptional construction engineer. He was an entrepreneur and small business owner having operated G&S Ceiling Cleaning and Stackie’s Bar in Sarnia. He was currently the co-owner with his loving wife of Waterfront Pizza in Courtright. He will be remembered as an amazing family chef, a one of a kind dancer and singer and as an avid car collector throughout the years having owned many cars and most notably his 1967 red Camaro convertible. He was a passionate lottery player and was a lifelong Green Bay Packers fan. A wonderful and touching farewell service was held in the presence of the amazing staff at St. Joseph’s Hospice alongside; his wife, Marsha; daughter, Sharon; son-in-law, Mark Cary and Max-his best friend. As per Gary’s wishes cremation has taken place and a celebration of life party will be announced in the near future. As expressions of sympathy friends who wish may make a memorial donation in Gary’s memory to St. Joseph’s Hospice, Sarnia. Arrangements entrusted to Knight Funeral Home, 588 St. Clair Parkway, Corunna. Messages and condolences may be left online @ www.knightfuneralhome.ca Knight 519-862-2845.
