Curran-It is with great sadness that the family of John Francis Curran announce his passing on Saturday May 16, 2009. Beloved husband of 66 years to his adored and cherished wife Marion (nee Stennett.) Dearly loved father of John (Duke) Curran and his wife Sandy, Janet Stinson and her husband Lee, Peg Langille and her husband Ron, Cathy Parkinson and her husband Jim, and Teri Cuyler and her husband Brian. Devoted Grandfather (“Pops”) to John (Susan) and Dan (Rhonda) Curran, Sheryl and Scott (Sue) Stinson, Kelly (Steve) Wilson, Karin (Iain) Pennington, Kathy (Ian) Williamson, Jennifer (Scott) McKay, Jamie (Sally) Parkinson, and Brieana (Andrew Mellanby) and Jessica Cuyler. Loving Great-Grandpa to 18. John was a veteran of WWII, serving with the Kent Regiment. He was employed at Dow Chemical of Canada until his retirement in 1982.John was an avid sportsman throughout his life, pursuing hunting, fishing, horse racing and golf and had great golf stories to share with his fellow members at the St. Clair Pkwy Golf course. John was a very proud friend of Bill W’s for 59 years and treasured his time with his group. He was a gifted counsellor, mentor and confidante to many. John will be remembered for his outgoing personality, his humour and passion for people. He was a tremendous family man and enthusiastic leader of the Curran clan, lovingly known as ‘the Don.’ A special thank you goes to the staff of Fiddick’s Retirement and Nursing Home for their extraordinary commitment to John’s care. Friends will be received at the Knight Funeral Home, 588 St. Clair Parkway, Corunna on Wednesday May 20th from 1-4 & 7-9 p.m. where the funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday with Fr. Nick Wells officiating. A private family interment will follow. As expressions of sympathy friends who wish may send memorial donations to the Inn of the Good Shepherd or charity of one’s choice.
