June George

George, June Elinore- Peacefully at home surrounded by family following a prolonged illness, on December 9, 2017. Beloved wife of Jack George (1926-1998) for 44 years. Loving mother of David and his wife Jennifer, Douglas, Susan and her husband Paul, and John and his wife Julie. Devoted grandmother of Genevieve and her husband Andrew, Danielle and her husband Josh, Jonathan, Nicholas and his fiancé Kristen, Hilary, Andrew and Sarah. Very proud great-grandmother of Benjamin, Colin, Clara and Noah. Daughter of Andrew Hartviksen and Nora Hedin. Survived by her sisters Helena and Jeanette, and her brother Jimmy. Born June 5, 1927 in Port Arthur, Ontario, and educated at Port Arthur Collegiate Institute and London Teacher’s College. June taught elementary school in Fort William, Sarnia and Scarborough. She married Jack George August 21, 1954. She served as a volunteer on various boards, including Social Planning and Research, Lambton Liberal Executive, Lambton Child Study Club, St. Clair Study Club, Lambton Child Abuse Committee, and Elderly Outreach. She served for 10 years as a Cancer Society Chemotherapy volunteer. Her interests included worldwide travel, entertaining, cooking (including courses in Sorrento Italy and Oxford UK), theatre, and Elderhostel. She was always interested in young people, and she and Jack were pleased to host four international Rotary exchange students. The family expresses its extreme gratitude to their mother’s caregivers, doctors and nurses. At the family’s request a private family funeral service has been held. A memorial service is planned for February 11, 2018 at Central Baptist Church in Sarnia. As expressions of sympathy the family has asked that you consider a memorial donation in memory of June to the VON Sarnia-Lambton, Parkinson Society of Canada or one of the charities important to June such as the Brain Tumour Foundation of Canada or to the Canadian Diabetes Association. It’s been many years since we have seen each other but I have wonderful memories of growing up with you and your parents. My Mom, Rog Keddy, is still with us at age 94. When I told her this news she got tears in her eyes. Thinking of all of you at this sad time.
