I’m so sorry to hear about Matt’s passing. I sent Matt a message in Jan 2023 about Joeys passing. I wish I hadn’t deleted it. Cuz I expressed how Joey really liked Matt as a foster brother, talked about him yrs after leaving the Klompstras. Remember the oil can and lawn mower incident. We sure laughed over that yrs later.

  26. Krista, Audrey, Seth, Tesse, Tianna, Gail, Jackie, Mark, Leah and Evy and the Klompstra Clan,

There simply are no words. Matt and I became fast friends when Bonne renovated Kay’s Petals and Plants where I had a part time job. So many of my dearest teenage memories include him, Scott McCormick and the down down river crew. Matt and Mark introduced me to the Red Hot Chili Peppers in Mark’s little cottage on the parkway – where I’m pretty sure I accidentally blew one of his speakers.

As we’ve grown up – life, work and family takes up a large chunk of your time. Every time I saw Matt, he’d give me that big grin and a big bear hug and it felt like home. Some people just invoke that warm “home” feeling and Matt was that guy. May your memories comfort you in the tough times ahead. If you knew Matt, you knew that Krista was the love of his life and he loved his children beyond measure. He was a family man who loved his siblings, cousins, uncles and aunts. Losing Matt will have a ripple effect without end for the downriver community, the construction industry and most importantly his family and his dear friends and fellow shenanigan makers.

“If the people we love are stolen from us, the way to have them live on is to never stop loving them.” – The Crow

    All my best and love,
    Mandy Gaw

I haven’t seen Matt for many years, but the last time I did the stories he was most excited to share with great passion, a sparkle in his eyes and that infamous dimpled smile were those of his beautiful wife Krista and their children. You are all in my thoughts. Sending love, Rachel McGuiness

A magnificent sunrise begins a new day. The birds are joyfully singing as the dew glistens with the sun peeking out from the horizon. Such a beautiful start to another day, but the sun is dimmer this morning, as I have to say goodbye to my good friend. His let’s do it attitude, and always up for fun, was only overshadowed by his selflessness. What was his, was yous, no question asked. Matt lived by one simple rule, Family First, this he proved every day. The love for this town, His town, was un-measurable. Taking on projects to help his community, and refusing recognition was his way. Matt’s humor and wit will be something I will miss so much, uncontrollable laughter as we banter back and forth.
I miss you my friend, there will be more laughs when we meet again….

  66. Mark and Gail Freer

  68. I was lucky enough to get to know Matt working for Bond Petroleum. He was a one of my first customers and got to know him quickly. Such a great guy with an outstanding personality. I could pop my head in and bullshit with the guy, tease and bet him on the Saints. He loved his toys and was always on the go, unless hot shotting it on the phone to look go for me. I never knew him outside of that environment and I wish I did. I always had a laugh and a smile leaving that stop. My sincerest heart goes out to his wife, kids, family and friends. My thoughts are with Kim, Tracy and the others from Klompstra Const. Fare thee well.
