Simmons- Peacefully at Bluewater Health-Palliative Care Unit, Sarnia on Tuesday October 7, 2014. Paul Jerome Simmons, age 87 years of Sarnia and formerly of Corunna. Paul was a loving husband for 65 yrs to his devoted wife Jacqueline (nee Johnston). Loving father of Lynn Zachmeyer of Westminster, California and Michael Simmons and John Simmons (Bonnie) all of Sarnia. Much loved grandfather of Adam Zachmeyer (Susan), Sam Simmons (Taryn) and Jennifer Welch (Brad) and great-grandfather of Andrew, Bryce and Blake. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive. He was predeceased by; his parents, Samuel and Josephine Simmons; his brothers, Sam, Jack and Floyd; his sisters, Mary Ann Griffin, Josephine Block and Lois Edwards; his sister-in-law Sylvia Simmons and brothers-in-law, Victor Griffin, Robert Block and Earl Edwards. Paul was born, raised and lived in Corunna most of his life. He joined the Royal Canadian Navy as a 16 year old and was discharged in 1945. Paul truly enjoyed his time living along the St. Clair River and had many fond memories of the fun times spent in his many boats. He was a long time member of Royal Canadian Legion Br. # 447- Corunna and was a proud 63 year member of Local #663 Plumbers and Pipefitters Union. Friends will be received at the Knight Funeral Home, 588 St. Clair Parkway Corunna, on Wednesday October 15, 2014 from 12:00 p.m. until 1:00 p.m. where a funeral service will follow with Fr. Paul Woolley officiating. Cremation has already taken place and a private family graveside service will be held at a later date in Sutherland Cemetery, Courtight.
